Reversal ADVICE quick!

Everyone: the buck is back to normal so far. He's grazing, rubbing trees and sparring. All eight deer look good. Thanks again.



Marco: I used the 100 strength xylazine @ 5cc to 5cc telozal. At the mixture you used, did you have to inject additional drugs to keep the bucks down? This happened more than once for me. I am going to order 333 strength from my vet.



I will be moving my buck fawns next. Any suggestions how much sedative I should use. I darted a real young one about a month ago with.5cc of straight xylazine as per my vets recommendations. that seemed to be too much because it took the fawn a very long timeto recover. I am only doing aQUICK MOVE from one pen to another.

I moved one yesterday and i gave him 1/2cc of the cocktail.I needed him out to do some tag work on him...I reversed with 1 1/4cc and all went fine.He is a large buck fawn!!!
 
I'm glad to hear everything went well for you Daniel, I think your mixture of Xylazine 100 strength to a bottle of Telazol was too week for the bigger Deer ....thats why you had to re-dart them .Try using 5cc or 6cc of 333 strength Xylazine to a bottle of Telazol,works way better and reverses good. I also didn't have to re-dart them at all.

We recently darted our buck to cut his antlers. We had to inject him three or four times to get him out, although one dart didn't work right and we aren't sure how much he got of it. He got drowsy right away but could still get up and stagger after 1/2 hour. He weighs approx. 225-250lbs, and he got 3-4 cc of 100 strength xylazine mixed with telazol. Before reading these posts, I didn't know there were other strengths. My question is this. If I switch to 333 strength xylazine, do I still use the same tolazine (my bottle says 100mg/ml), or do I also need stronger tolazine? These forums are such a great source of information. Thanks to everyone that contributes their knowledge and experience.
 
Yes, you use the same reversal strength in the (tolazine), with the 333 strength xylazine. I would not put more than 3cc of Tolazine (reversal) in a buck.....the most I would..... will be 2cc of tolazine.
 
OK let's get some dosages correct before someone has a problem.



5-6cc of 300mg/ml Xylazine is mixed with 20 grams of telazol.

This cocktail is administered IM (dart or hand injected) at a rate of 1cc/100 pounds.

Tolazine (100mg/ml) is administered IV at a dosage rate of 1cc per 55 pounds.



Now having stated the above, I can tell you from my experience that these dosage rates are a "rule of thumb". You will learn over time that condition and stamina of the animal, temperment, ambient temperature, humidity, type of dart, and stress level can affect the way the sedative works.
