Sick Buck fawn for three to four weeks... pull and bottle feed or leave on mom??

Ok guys buck fawn born 5/13/2012 noticed about four weeks ago he was getting weaker. caught him week and half ago gave him an antiobiotic and Banamine ... looked better not great then started downhill again.... treated again with same did ok for two days not back to laying by feeder all day and struggle getting up. I have the ability to pull him and try bottle feeding and treating him. what do you suggest? Any and all advice needed. no visible wounds at all just looks wore down. Full brother is as healthy as they get... ive seen him on mom but not sure how long she is letting him suck. i know the heat has been rough but he is a fighter. he has been dealing with this for several weeks now. guys any and all thoughts. and if you advise a medicine please tell me if i have to go to vet or TSC.

That is around the time for coccidia to hit in the pens....seems to happen at about 4-6 weeks every year. Are you proactive on in your doe pens with maintenance treatments? Have you seen his poop? Ones that are on the mother seem to have a lot of hair licked around their butts and hocks..you can see all the hairs have been cleaned thoroughly. Just thoughts from experience.
 
Derek, we had a 3 week old buck fawn do the same thing. We finally figured out that his mom didn't have enough milk for 2 buck fawns. He became very lethargic and simply lost his desire to even try to suck. I watched his mom one day walk up to him and she had to grunt to get him to stand, then he didn't even try to drink, he just stood there. We pulled him and ended up tube feeding him for 4 days but just couldn't get him rehydrated enough to break the cycle and get him eating. We finally took him to the Vet clinic and they put him on IV's for 3 days and got him, finally, to take a bottle. He has been at home and taking the bottle ever since and is doing great. We would do this for any of our fawns but being that he is a Bucky Jr. fawn made spending the money even easier. I suggest you pull him before you lose him.

They can have coccidia and still have a good looking pellet.



I would take a sample into the vet right away.



Albon or SMZ might be a better choice for administering purposes to your fawn to treat for coccidia.

Vet said Albon but i can't find it at TSC.... pulled him tonight started bottle feeding with little added electrolytes to help him..... looking for next sample to vet tomorrow.... not sure how long stool testing takes but im starting albon as soon as i get it... its the only thing that makes sense
