sick buck?

I would say ulcers from EHD would be very likely. Unfortunately I could not find much info on treatment of ulcers due to the make up of the ruminants digestive system. Milk of magnesia or peptobismol was all I could find. There is an injectable cimetidine (tagament) that might work, the oral takes very high doses.

Could be a toxic weed.

all great stuff, BUT THE DEER NEEDS A VET .

update bad ending. The deer continued to decline and started bleeding out the mouth yesterday, dead last night. Stomach ulcerated badly, EHD claims another one.

sorry for your lose, but mabe you can post step by step what you encounter, as EHD first hit this buck

crocket, he first showed as a mildly swollen mouth/tongue/under jaw areas. Drooling, and had that "stare" in his eyes. I hit him immediately with 6cc Draxxin, 6cc Dex, 3cc Baytril. Followed two days later with 3cc Draxxin, 3cc DEx. He showed great improvement, but still acted under the weather. Another round of Draxxin and Dex three days later. Probiotics with each medication treatment.

He developed a hacking deep cough which I treated with Draxxin over the next two weeks, every third day. No improvement. Maybe four weeks in I treated him with 2cc Baytril once a day for five days...cough got better but he continued to lose weight rapidly.

He started vomiting up bile, still losing weight. I lightly sedated him and tubed him with good healthy rumen juice and the vomiting slowed down. Dead three days later.

I had a fawn brought to me with EHD, mouth swollen/drooling. I hit him with Draxxin/Baytril/Dex and he immediately improved. Got better, eating/drinking for five days and died. Better every day and then just dead.

Three deer with swollen mouths/drooling, one of them with tender feet walking. Hit all three with Draxxin/Baytril/Dex...three times over 7 days, all greatly improved and recovered nicely. One of them is still walking a little tenderly, but not bad.

Another found with badly swollen face/mouth/drooling/dazed. Treated and dead the next day. Found too late.

I'm no expert for sure, but it seems to me that IF you have a chance to save the deer that early recognition and fast treatment is essential. And some(most???) deer are just going to die no matter what you do, esp if they get rumen ulcers.

Midges need to burn in hades.....
