2 weeks ago I had a buck fawn that died slowly. By the time we realized his problem, it was too late. He was covered on his face, ears and most of his body with little bumps which made his skin extremely rough. I called my vet and he said it could possilby be a staff infection. My questions are: ( and I ask deer farmers cause I believe we sometimes know more than some vets just due to experience) Could this be a staff infection? What to do about it if it is? ( I have Draxin) What causes it? Is it contagious? We have a doe fawn in the house now with the same bumps on her face and ears and we would of course like to save her if we could. Thanks in advance for your responses.

yes give 1cc of draxin half IM and half SUBQ. have you changed anything lately? feed, formula, probiotics.... Washed her with soap or diff wipes......

I had a fawn do this last year but his mother was very sick and the fawns hadn't had much to eat by the time we pulled them. Stools were thick and grey. Lost one but the other one I put on an oral neomycin which cleared it up but then he got it again once he went back out to the barn but he seemed to outgrow it.

Found another fawn with the same thing this morning. Had been in the house so maybe got it from the other one. The one we treated with Draxin seems to be getting better. Treating the other the same way. Thanks Curtis for the med directions. Haven't changed anything with them, until we found the bumps on the skin now have both of them in pen away from others. Both are eating really well. Time will tell.

Thanks everyone for the responses. All input helps alot.
