I have a ? for some of the guys on here that have sold lots of deer in the past.If i buy a deer from auction who gets the ball rollin on the movement permit paperwork..The buyer or the seller????? There is a story to follow!

unless the seller announce that he will deliver the animal the buyer is liable to arrange pick up and delivery, paperwork involves both parties, in OH If it is a deer I sold, I get the information from buyer where the deer is going farm name, address, owner, in WI who the transporter is and his or her address, animal info farm tag, and state tag info and turn into my vet and they will send info to state where deer is going to get the permit number and documentation, deer cannot leave my farm until this is complete

Both parties need to be involved, communication is very important

We are currently going through this regarding an exciting purchase we made in PA. Since this is our first purchase out of state we are unsure of what was to happen ourselves. The seller has done this many times and has been helpful in offering info.

Like Rick said communicationis key.

You will find yourself thinking of questions you should have asked. Keep a little note book and write these questions down before you forget. Then contact the seller and simply ask those questions.

As far as the seller in one of our first conversations we gave him our permit numbers. He is going to contact his vet to get all the documentation finalized so transportation can commence.

In our case the transportation cost is our responsibility. We got lucky the seller has a transport service bringing other deer through Ohio within the next month so we got a reduced rate in the transport cost which is over and above the cost of the deer itself.

Hope this helps.

Ok so here is where i am at.I buy a deer at auction at the end of august. I meet the guy at the pa sale and introduced myself and tell him i bought said deer and wanted to know what he wanted to do next.He tells me he cant move any deer untill after testing at the end of october.I say ok and give him my contact number and say let me know what to do next. The middle of november rolls around and i have heard nothing.I send an email and he says he needs the rest of the money and wants to know what fawn i wanted as there was twins and another guy wanted the one i didnt pick.So i pick one sight unseen and ask him about paperwork. He says i should have picked it up by now and he wants to charge me boarding. I said no balance untill i pickup the fawn. We get permit to move in the end of december.I in the mean time I list said fawn in another sale and email him and tell him i can pickup said deer the following weekend, he says ok.3 days later he says he wont be home that weekend and that the other fawn, the twin of mine had died along with 4 other deer of pneumonia.Well we never got the deer because of the 4 feet of snow we got the the next 2 weekends and the permit runs out.I email him and ask if he mabey we should just skip the deal because he has sickness,he says they were in different pen and it should be no problem.Well i say ok and to get the vet back out there and get another permit going and i will pay for this trip. Well i get an email monday that the vet was there to check the deer on friday and everything is fine and he goes away for the weekend.Well he says he comes home monday to another dead deer....Mine.... And that he was SORRY.I email and tell him i am sorry and he can just refund we and mabey we can deal again when he gets to the bottom of the sickness...6 deer in 3 weeks???????? He emials back and says no refund and he is charging boarding.Well in pa all dead deer are to be reported to vet or someone for cwd..We call the vet and he said the fawn was in great shape and he has not heard of that farm having sickness...Go figure... So what do i do...Throw the guy under the bus for rippin me off...Sue him...And this guy is selling deer across the country.Do i say something because mabey he is selling sick deer to other people..He has deer in the auction this weekend.......WHAT WOULD YOU DO?????

I'd check for tire marks and make sure he got the license plate number of the truck that ran him over. There are enough reputable farms out there to buy from. A guy did this to me a few years back and I didn't do anything about it and he continued to lie and put his fraudulent animals in auctions. If he didn't want to sell the deer or wanted more he should have just given your money back and been done with it.

I sure wish you all would let us know who you are having the trouble with so the rest of us don't have to deal with these people. You can PM me if you don't want to post it on the forums.

Thanks

Dustin you are so right...If someone does that to me i can tell you that he would never do it to anyone else.Mike you are gettin the shaft out of this deal and you do need to call him out on this.If this guy you speak of is really selling deer that are sick or are coming from a farm that has sickness is bull. Can you imagine buying a deer that has a sickness and throwing it in the pens with your best does or baby bottlefeds.I know things happen and we cant always be sure of everything but if he has deer that die and he just digs a hole for them and keeps moving deer is just wrong and someone that would do that should be takin right out of deer forever.. Please let us know how this turns out.

yep, call him out, u-o us as well as the deer,

First off This guy should be offering you everything ...including the kitchen sink....Over and beyond what he owes you To make you happy...But need to prove the deer are healthy if it is another deer (a better one) or several to compensate for your problems!!

IF he is being honest!!!!

You do not treat customers this way...IF you do YOU SHOULD BE EXPOSED!!!

So sorry to hear that... :(

also talk to all the auction companies involved!! Past and Present!!

Send your message about the deer dieing to Mary Martin and see if he has reported it. If not he will loose his cwd status. These kinda people should be exposed so the rest of us know who we are dealing with.

You should get a full refund since he was the reason you couldn't pick up the deer in the first place. If you neglected to pick up the deer that would be a different story.

contact the auction company or people and report this, they may be able to help......

The auction company didn't help me what so ever, why do you think you haven't seen any of my animals in auction for a few years!? I told them about it multiple times and the guy put a sister to the doe he sold me in auction the next year with a totally different pedigree lol. Same deal, it was a bred doe and all the fawns died, blah blah blah. Convenient it happened right when prices started to get hot. Then someone has an issue with something I put in auction. I pull it back because I didn't trust the pedigree since the doe wasn't born on my farm and the world comes crashing down on my head. His deer aren't getting sick, he just doesn't want to sell them, that's pretty obvious. If anyone ever bought a doe from me that died and they didn't want a sister or brother I'd give them their money back and a choice straw of semen off the farm for their troubles. Let people talk about my stubbornness, but ya know what I'll atleast tryin do you right.

You have to do something about that, you can't let him get away with cheating you out of your money and fawn. If you bought the animal at auction and have record's of this, you paid for the animal then you have him. I am sure it would be a cival matter (even though I would look at it as theft by deception ) you will win.

Mike,

I would definitely do whatever was warranted to get the word across. Here in Ohio, deer that die and are under 1 year old has to be reported not tested but still reported and documented. Deer over 1 has to be sent in.

How would everyone feel about a points system to your farm only pertaining to purchasing and selling of deer. I believe each state already has a farm list on there web site I could be wrong. Along with the farm name a single number can be listed as well between 1 - 5 and this number covers their standing as a buyer and seller.

Lets say that each state farmers assoc has 1 person on the board that is deligated to be the point of contact regarding deer sales or transactions. This person would take the call from the buyer or purchaser stating the issues that they are having. In the same instance he should be getting the positive calls as well.

In this case Mike would call the PA rep and intoduce himself and discuss the current issue. That representative would then research this issue either by personal appearance or a phone call. This representative should discuss this with the other board members after his findings are final. The representative can only discuss with said party as what they should do not what they are going to do. This represenative will call Mike back and state that with information provided and the finding of the board that it was discussed with the farmer that he should do ?????????.

If both parties are satisfied and things are worked out the PA state rep will give the farmer from his state say a 2.5 for this instance and he would call the New York rep and tell that person that he has been working on this issue for Mike and as a purchaser Mike should get a 5.

Say the score is on record constantly but is the average of their past 5 transactions. Anytime a person can look up the farm rating and make their decission from that point. If the seller wanted he could post that number in his auction say purchase with confidence number.

Whitetail Exchange already calls out non-payers.

Just a thought from a newbie.

First off i want everyone to know the last thing i want to do is give someone a bad name. I have had people call me and pm me thanking me for standing up for myself when it looks like a fellow deer farmer is going to take me for a ride.I just spoke with someone from a different auction than where i bought the deer from and low and behold they are having a problem with the same farmer so i am sure before this is over everyone will know who it is and then you can make your own decision on what you think of the whole matter. Dustin you keep doing what you are doing.I want everyone to know that i bought a bred doe off dustins farm and it was as smooth as could be and the fact is that the doe left his farm and was in new york for 3 months before she was paid in full!!!How many people would do that for a complete stranger??? Dustin might be set in his ways but i will say in another year or two he will have some of the biggest deer in the bizz.Jeff sorry i missed your call and i hope angie put you at ease with your doe you bought from jacob glick. You will have no problems with him and you also got yourself a heck of a deer if jacob had anything to do with it..I really just hope that this farmer is not selling deer to other farmers around the country that are sick as i see he sold deer in todays auction in indiana.

Mike, If that guy knows what's GOOD for him he better start playin staight before:eek: Angie gets hold of him!!!!!!!!!!! and I can vouch for Jake Glick not that he needs it but you will find VERY FEW who will do what he will do for a customer of his! GOOD LUCK :)Mike and Angie stay after this :mad:prick..................We need guy's like this gone from OUR BUSINESS!

Thanks for the good word Mike! I try to do my best to get people started in the business because it's not about the money, it's about doing something that you love. First of all if I actually get some buck fawns this spring look out boys... I was looking through my doe pen and I don't have a son or brother from any does in my top 2 dozen strongest females, scary! I have a little guy at the farm right now that's preparing to start pushing up some bone, so it looks like it should be an interesting year again and his mom is ranked 29th. If someone out there wants to get in the deer business or advance their herds just give me a call, I'll talk your ear off, haha.

Dustin it kinda shocked me that you had auction problems with someone and let them slide. I have talked to 3 people that have had some kind of problem with the guy that is taking me for a ride.2 of those people have control of auctions so i think this guys days are numbered.I will tell you one thing if he does not come clean on this i swear i will go public with it,i will take out a full page add somewhere to let everyone know and whenever i see his animals in auction i will post over and over of what this guy has done in the past to farmers. It will cost him a he!! of alot more money in the long run than what he is taking me for!!!!!!!!!!
