Michael,

I have a straw of Weatherby JR and a straw of Texas Tea. I can't wait to put them into some of the Ratchet pedigree of does that I have.

The Ratchet line has produced good for me over the years. I have Ratchet mixed into my piebald pedirees...working good so far!!

Gary Olsen...... I still have 3 straws of Redoy Weatherby we bought at the top 30........7 or 8 years ago! What a fantastic looking buck. What kind of sons does he produce? Are they clean? I may give him a shot after hearing the background!

I am confused.........after reading this thread does Texas Tea have Bucky in his pedigree?? Or is it a miss print on Whitetail quest?? Not that it takes anything away from Tea he is an awesome buck.....but for genetic purposes it could mean something.........

Cassie,

The sire that bred Sugar was once again going back to the PA game commission because when we started out raising deer, we had nothing but PA wild deer through the PA game commission and another local deer farmer whose herd also consisted of PA wild deer. The father was a 6x5 line bred PA game commission deer.

I don't know what else to say to clarify this, but this is where everyone's deer came from in the beginning (out of the wild) that have been crossed and are producing some of the biggest bucks in the country.

Micheal,

So when I look on whitetail quest at Texas Teas pedigree and where it says "bucky doe" that is really supposed to be sugar....right? This would mean that bucky does not exist in Texas teas pedigree......and if I remember right you said Sugar was from the Pennsylvania wilds.......correct?

As the original post says, my dad sold Roy Yoder a 2 year old out of our pen of which ended up going to Ben Coblentzes and Ben used him as a breeder buck. The reason he got his name as Redoy Ben is because Yoder bought him and Coblentz used him so he ended up with a name of Redoy Ben. And for whatever reason, why Roy claims that a Goodman buck and a bucky doe produced Redoy Ben is beyond me. Redoy Ben and Ratchet are twin brothers out of my father's herd. Both, totally back to the PA game commission stock on my dad's farm. Other references: Dave Creegan, Beford, PA, Andy Foor, Bedford, PA who bought Ratchet, Barclay Young, Pear Orchard Whitetails, Breezewood, PA who has a lot of Ratchet blood, that could possibly give some input on this too.

Jim, This the last picture I have of Weatherby @ 10. He still stayed typical and was 23.5 inches I.S. It seems like Weatherby shines best when he is on the grandparents side of the pedigree. I have seen pictures of his grandsons that are up to 38 inch I.S. I think he is a good buck to have in the does pedigree. A buck with good blood flow on his daughters and granddaughters should produce good things. I was thinking of your buck Heartbreak on Weatherby daughters would be interesting. Look what you did with Elvis on Thunderstorm! I have seen a lot of good big bucks with solid typical does for mothers.
