Whitetail Exchange Problems 1-18-12

The new server for Whitetail Exchange is now up and running. We decided to split Whitetail Exchange and Whitetail Quest on two separate systems to more efficiently (get more speed and process more requests) handle the load of Wednesday Night No Reserve and Special Auction nights like the Internet Select Sale.

We completely overhauled the way the data is brought into Exchange. The pedigrees that come from Quest will load from a different server AFTER the entire auction page is loaded. In order to bid, you must first go to the Auction Page. Because of the changes made, all the bidding information is loaded first, and than the outside data (photos, video, pedigrees) is brought in. We will be applying the same for banners and any other information from 3rd parties.

We also addressed the issue of Sniping (the feature to extend auctions in the last 5 minutes). This was accomplished by upgrading to new software that had improvements to this area and also moving and upgrading to a new server that can handle more query requests as opposed to media events.

We also added additional functions (index features) to the database itself to help with cache for images, current bid levels and auction times.

One other item of mention, the area where you add your AUCTION DESCRIPTION has been fixed. When you hit return to add a space, a space will be added and so forth. We also tightened the security on this form as we saw some of the "coding" from cuts and pastes to this area also slowed down the database when it had to deal with foreign code it did not understand. So, when you use this feature and it does not allow you to "paste" in certain things, it is because we do not allow it anymore. Any questions, just call us.

There were many more things done and many more improvements coming. However, we will not know for sure until we get through our test tonight. All indications are pointing to a very positive result for tonight.

Thanks for your patience and please let us know if something is not working right or if you do not understand some of the new features. We will try to get instructional videos up to explain the changes in the upcoming days.

I have noticed some things are still not working and im just asking so you can look into it. I had a lot of previous auctions in my favorites and now when i try to look at them it sends me to the new server(the new WTE SITE). If i hover over with my browser on the favorites it says it is in maintenance mode. Are those items now gone forever? Also taking a look around on the site the wall of shame also does the same thing( send you to the new WTE SITE). I like knowing that those people arent bidding on my listings. Thanks Eldon PS THANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK YOU GUYS PUT INTO THIS!

Eldon,

In order to make the switch with very little downtime, I can to separate the auction site into two different domains. whitetailexchange.com and .net. The old system, which your favorites reference, is the old .net. You will need to find the items again on the new site and rebookmark.

Sorry, but there was no other way to do this.

All of the pages and information was fully transferred. Nothing was lost.

Hope this helps!

Richard

PS One of the test auction items tonight is a Todd Morgan Free Auction Setup (which he does right now for free). That's what I will be bidding on. Maybe the Walk's bobble head too!

Todd or Richard,

Where are these lots for the test auction? I log in and can't see anything for tonights auction. Thanks,

Steve

Reminder, tonight is the test auction on Whitetail Exchange. The lots will go live at 6:00 and will end at 9:00pm EST. They will appears in the recently listed items at 6:00. There really is no need to bid on them until after 8:30 as we really need a lot of bidding between 8:30 and 9:00.

I would like to thank everyone for their support over this last 5-6 days. I would also like to thank everyone in advance that plans to help us out tonight.

Todd Morgan

Remember, be careful if you are coming to the site to bid on the test auctions that you only bid on the ones that are clearly marked TEST AUCTION. All of the auctions on Whitetail Exchange are live and open to bidding if you wish, but the bids on the normal auctions count.

Nice Job Richard updates are fast as lightning. Looks to be 3-4 times faster than on our best day. Thanks for taking the bull by the horns.

I bid about 100 times, refreshed about 100 times and logged out and then back in about 10 times in 30 mins. Smoking fast! My slowest refresh was 0.042 seconds! The future road will always have new issues to deal with and learn from but this one is in the past. Great job guys! I would expect any doubts about the server to be put away!

I refreshed alot tonite (Wed night) and the site was instant. Good job guys! Darren

Worked great!!!!!

Is it possible to get the pictures back at the bottom of the listing so that they are bigger? Pedigrees are impossibleto read, as they are now in the picture frames at the top, even when they are enlarged.

Coby,

We are looking at getting the photos to enlarge when clicking on the image. You are correct, it is too small right now.

The new model for how the auction site displays information has increased speed and refresh rates because of how we bring in the information. Lets say that in the past we were running at 80% server loads during peek times. Last night during a record 193 users online, we did not see the server get above 3%. This new model will allow us to expand to thousands of users online with thousands of auction listed along with special "Select" sales in the future.

However, to accomplish a simple task of enlarging a photo, new code has to be written to adjust for our new model. I should have this completed in a day or two.

Thanks for you comment and suggestion. Without them, we cannot improve.

Why isn't the link from the forums to get to Whitetail Exchange working? Or is it just me?

Thanks Virgil I'll ask Richard to adjust when we made the server change we direct forum link. We will adjust the top banner to move from survey to Whitetail Exchange. Thanks for notice.

Scott not sure if this is the same issue or not ....but when I receive an email from Todd regarding WTE I could always click on the exchange logo in the email and be link up to WTE.......that is no longer working either.......just wanted you know!
