Antlers Dropping

Based on my captive deer experience and my background with wild deer that stress or injury certainly initiates early shedding. Some bucks, however, simply have their schedule, it seems. I have a buck that routinely sheds in late December. I also had a buck used for study that always shed within days of the same date each year...the second week of April.

As an aside, its nice to see so many familiar names here, its been a long time away for me.

NYBill!!!! Wow man! I thought you were dead!?!?!?! HaHaHaHa. Nice to see you again!!!!!

If they are your deer and they shed late...it's good nutrition, if they shed early...it's the weather. If it's someone elses deer and they shed early..it's poor nutrition/stress. ;)

Hey billllll !!!!!!!!!!!! Long time no see !!! Glad to see you back!!!!! I thought you needed a ******* to show you how to get back here ? Lmao

Lots vairables. welcome back, heck i aint heard nothing you was ole timer when i started reading old forum 4or5 years back had some good advice.Dc

Ours just recently started shedding theirs off this past week...which seems pretty normal for us. Last year all had shed by Thanksgiving...which was waaaay early aside from one of our bucks who normally sheds much earlier. I do blame last year on poor nutrition...but wow...interesting to see that it's not uncommon for them to keep their antlers clear into April.

Before Thanksgiving? That's the earliest I've heard.

Mine usually shed in March.

What are the wild bucks doing?

Every wild buck we have on trail cameras has lost their antlers, already! I'm hoping one grows them back before Saturday, which is the last day of muzzleloader season . . . haha!

I have never seen a southern deer shed before March, most in April, some of the northerns here shed in early January. If the rut has not started when they shed can they still breed?

Wild bucks that I heard of dropping in late November and December almost always had body trauma from the accounts I was told, being a taxidermist. They were often shot as does in late season. Others shed off while being handled or dragged from the hunting woods. To be honest, this doesnt seem any different this year compared to past years.

We have a friend that deer farms. We are getting an awsome pie buck off of him, however this deal was made in peak rut, and didn't want to introduce a new buck until they dropped. He has been calling becasue all of his deer dropped weeks ago. We only have one that dropped one side.???? Strange
