Based on my captive deer experience and my background with wild deer that stress or injury certainly initiates early shedding. Some bucks, however, simply have their schedule, it seems. I have a buck that routinely sheds in late December. I also had a buck used for study that always shed within days of the same date each year...the second week of April.



As an aside, its nice to see so many familiar names here, its been a long time away for me.

If they are your deer and they shed late...it's good nutrition, if they shed early...it's the weather. If it's someone elses deer and they shed early..it's poor nutrition/stress.

Ours just recently started shedding theirs off this past week...which seems pretty normal for us. Last year all had shed by Thanksgiving...which was waaaay early aside from one of our bucks who normally sheds much earlier. I do blame last year on poor nutrition...but wow...interesting to see that it's not uncommon for them to keep their antlers clear into April.
