Antlers Dropping

I would test the feed to start with. If it is the feed I would bet it has less to do with Maxrax and more to do with the feed mill making the feed.

We feed Massive Rack deer feed on our farm it has done well for us but this past spring our deer started to look thin and as the spring turned to summer the deer got worse so our farm along with several other farms in the area using the feed sent in test samples of the feed and come to find out the feed mill had replaced our formula with a cheaper one (And of course still charging the same) we called Massive Rack and found out that the feed mill had only bought enough mineral to make 12 tons of feed (from Jan. 2010 to Aug. 2010) but some how sold over 35 tons of feed.:mad::mad:

We now have a new feed mill.:)

I have one 3 year old that shed and one yearling. They are both healthy and in Two separate pens.

Hunters have told me of 3 half racks....All of the Hunters were from different areas here in Western Pa.

We don't feed maxrax... grain feed mill style and whitetail clover alfalfa mix hay. We have seen and heard of more and more deer in central IL dropping horns so I am begining to think it doesn't have to do with the feed, more like the rough weather came a little earlier this year.

We have two here in central WI that have dropped, and also have some trail camera pics of wild deer that have as well. Its early for us, but we have had some pretty nasty weather, and I know at least one of ours that dropped rutted pretty hard.

I must say this is the earliest i have had a buck shed but he is a yearling and no records to check .

I have seen one wild deer here that has shed both sides and that is a bad thing with doe season still to go. Last year seen 1st one mid Jan. but still seen bucks with both sides in late March early April. I hope they all shed the day after late doe season is over it sure will make it better for me when I am walikng around looking for them.

Yes, a lot of them are. I borad my deer and there are several bucks that have dropped both sides already, might have something to do with the really cold weather we had a few weeks ago, don't know just a guess.

I live in northern Michigan all my deer but 1 have lost their horns and I even have a wild deer on camera on the 16th of Dec.that lost his horns.

im in north jersey and seen one wild deer ( nice ) 8 for the out side , that has lost hafe his rack. and the weather here has not been cold or bad ? DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON .mabe a vet will chime in and spread some light

I am sure here in Illinois the DNR is behind it, they must have found a way to make them shed early so there will be more legal animals to kill during the two remaining antlerless gun season's. Just a few more years and we will have all of the wild deer killed off around here (my area of the state any way)

Mine are all still holding on and usaully do so untill late Feb or early March.

i would not dout if the NJ DNR had something to do with it also sounds like something they would do:(

Lost my first one over the weekend, had a lot of pedicle on it, so not sure if was due to fighting or what...Still have 16 others with both sides and of course I haven't seen any drops from the 2010 buckfawns yet. I'm in the northern 1/3 of MO

All my boys are still holding tight. One usually drops the end of Jan, the rest wait till Feb or March.

Different years I have heard of hunters going to pull their bucks out of the woods and having the antlers come off in their hands. Seems to happen on certain years ....not sure why. My deer drop some mid Jan. on til March. I have had my breeder drop his almost the same day for 3-4 years....the day before our Winter Deer meeting , last weekend in Feb.

had one drop yesterday I usually have one between Christmas and New Years,.... then the rest take their time .... last year april 22 was the last buck

just early, nothing new just early. some do some dont.my opinion Dc wouldnt worry less looks thin or stressed! Dc

I recently spoke with 3 different farms all in different parts of the country and they all had bucks dropping antlers. Maybe health is less the issue and something different is going on this winter. A harsher winter expected? Maybe an earlier spring? Maybe the moon is further away than normal?:p Who knows what is going on.
