We had an 2nd Dog attack the day before Christmas and lost 4 bucks We got the dogs on camera and already contacted the DNR and the owner. The question I have is one of the bucks was a fawn buck out of our Timberline breader ( Scored 252 at 2 and also Died in the first attack) as a stocker buck what would you pay for Timberline at a preserve. I just want to give it(the fawn buck) a value at 2 .then rate it at maybe 50% of that value .Im just thinking and looking for some advise .

Thanks Ed McCarthy with H & M Whitetails

I would get a hold of Todd Morgan I do believe he is a certified apraiser.

Ed, I would agree get ahold of Todd Morgan or Jerry Campbell they are certified apprasiers and I'm pretty sure you will need an answer from a professional at some point.

Sorry for your loss!

Not sure of your state rules when we had our bird farm we had a dog attack that killed 286 pheasants when we turned it in the owner of the dogs had to pay the value of the birds and 1 yrs value of how many chicks each would provide if they had lived.

You should be able to get at the least how much semen the deer would provide / fawns if it had survived. check your local laws on it

The quick answer is that most of the time (not all of the time) in a case like this, you will get replacement value on the fawn. That is the value that it will take to replace this fawn with another of equal value. Your future earnings are usually not considered as the replacement will generate your future earnings.

Usually in whitetail deer the only way you are going to get lost semen sales is if they are an established breeder and you can show past sales and project future sales. The other is if you for example had an incredible yearling that had never been collected and they get killed before you collect and do not have time to replace, market and collect.

I dont think this is what you wanted to hear, but 99% you will get replacement value.

Todd
