It is 12:30PM and Sam's chest tube procedure is being done as we speak down in the ICU. It should only take about 20 min. or so for the chest tube to be repositioned. Sam was given sedatives to put him to sleep before the procedure and he will wake up shortly after the procedure is done. He was getting very sleepy but was talking to the doctors as he drifted off to sleep about being able to meet Lifehouse and Daughtry a few weeks ago. What a magical night that was for our entire family. As Sam's parents we were so thankful that we were able to see first hand one of Sam's dreams come true. We will keep everyone posted but it may be a day or two before we see if this procedure worked or not and the air leak is gone. Keep those prayers coming!

Good Morning Diligent Prayer Warriors:

Sam had a good night last night, fortunately he has been sleeping well the past few nights. Surgery team came in and did not see any bubbles from his chest tube! That is the best thing we've seen since we've checked in here at the Chateau. They will do an x ray this morning and check for bubbles in a few hours. His temperature seems to have leveled out and he has not had a fever since 8 last night. His sodium, while still on the low side has increased from where it has been and is looking better. Now, if it can only stay that way!

His platelets and hemoglobin are low, however they will correct that today. So all in all, it seems as if we are finally on the upswing. Had the repositioning of the chest tube not worked yesterday, then they would have to surgically repair it. It looks (as of now) that won't need to happen.

Thank you all for lifting Sam and the rest of our family in our prayers.

God Bless!

I wish I had better news to post. It seems that though the chest tube did not show bubbles or an air leak earlier, the doctors now think the tube is not working properly....and this is the reason no bubbles are showing. The doctors thought maybe the chest tube was blocked somehow and even inserted a solution into it to clear out any blockage. It does not seem to have worked. Now the talk is to take Sam back down to ICU tonight to possibly do another procedure- either put another chest tube in or a smaller tube that will hopefully seal up this air leak. This has been such a roller coaster ride for all of us with highs and lows. It seems we have had mostly lows over the past several days. Sam just wants to come home. I truly hope it does not come down to him having to undergo another surgery but if that is what has to happen then we will do it. We will do whatever needs to be done to fix the air leak and have our son become well again. I will update as I know more but the status as of now is malfunctioning chest tube and somehow it will need to be replaced or another smaller tube put in tonight. Sam will probably need to be sedated for this. He had lunch today and you cant sedate on a stomach with food in it so the procedure may not be done until this evening. I am here at the hospital tonight with Sam as Mike will be home this evening with our girls. It seems like every time we take 2 steps forward then we are taking several steps back again. We are still continuing to trust, hope and believe that all will work out in Sam's favor and his health will be restored. It is very easy not to get discouraged now though. Please pray as I know that all of you are. Thanks for being there for our family.
