Daniel, I will let you know some facts I know, while keeping names confidential.
I know the guy that had his whole herd depopulated because of the positive that came up on Oct. 13. This guy had 10 deer left all were destroyed and he was not compensated, my ag lady told me he was not compensated. I i am trying to understand the ags need to destroy the herd, since their is no other way to test other than if they are dead. But Why, I just can't understand why, do they have the right to do so and NOT compensate the guy a dime. I just cannot understand why they are treating us like criminals for raising these deer, showing up with fire arms to destroy your herd, and not give you any sort of relief.
I bought a deer from this man, so Monday I was required by their laws to kill her for testing (I had the choice to kill her or they would bring someone in to kill her, I did not want them to come to my property with a firearm, so I did this, once again my expense)
After the kill, the ag lady took the head, put it in a bio hazard bag and had me sign a chain of custody form, then she to told me that I should bury the body!!) they don't take them. I had every urge to drive the body into their office and leave it in their parking lot, but I know that would only bring trouble upon myself. I showed a receipt for the doe I purchased on Sept 24, 2011 for $XXX (I will leave the price out for my privacy) but that means nothing,to them, I still get $000. I loved this doe and I felt she was a huge asset to my breeding herd. but now this plump healthy doe is gone for no good reason. I guess I see their need to test, it would just be so much less devasting to recieve at least some of my money I had in her.
I also know Freedom whitetails and what he is going through, he is being absolutely insulted by the ag, loosing his right to sell deer, because of someone elses mistake.
I also know of a quarantine situation someone else is dealing with that might top them all, but I must keep that quiet as I don't have all the details.
I know for those looking upon this situation from the outside, it may seem like we are all blowing this thing out of proportion, I been told to just deal with it and it will go away and things will get back to normal (mostly by people that are not deer farmers themselves) but if anyone on here has to deal with this directly it is very scary. I can see peoples right to own these animals being stripped away, this is very real. Be very thankful if you are not involved.
My ag lady told me more deer are going to die. Not even everyone has been contacted yet. They are eliminating/ quarantineing all the deer this guy sold off his farm in the last 5 years is what i was told, the doe that had CWD was only 3 years old, This is just beyond rediculous. Why! I hope this is not offical, maybe it is what they are planning, but this shows me they are going to start making up their own rules, that will only hurt us farmers.
I am not intending to start rumors, I am giving some information I have been told directly by ag personell or have witnessed for myself.
