What is the accredited farm in Pa who hasn't ever had a positive that now has a positive at Dan's?
Why is this type of information not made public to the rest of the deer industry?
It would be helpful to everyone's decision making. Not releasing the facts or any details about this situation is going to hurt our business.
I have friends here in Indiana that have been recently put on quarantine because of a notification sent from Pa that was not explained. Do states just go on the other states word or recommendation without reviewing factual info? Again what is the protocol for how these quarantines are administered? Do other livestock have similar quarantine trace back protocols?

Jon if they were out on lock down because of dealing with a Pa farm they should know who they dealt with in Pa, unless of course they got tangled up in the web of trace's forward or back. I believe many know what farm it was in Pa that had the CWD positives but until its made public , well you know.
I believe the farm went out of business and had their animals sold by one of the auction companies as a separate auction during a regular auction. I was locked down up here because of one of the Pa positives. I bought from a farm 4 years 9 months ago so i had the choice of killing the 3 deer that came off of that farm or wait the 3 months until it hit the 5 year minimum. I waited and was lifted after the 3 months were up. The farm i bought my deer from sold the fawn that ended up being positive at 3 months old. They try to get you in the web!

LOL...Yup sorry buddy but even in your own state right now stands deer that were bought out of a CWD positive herd, those deer alone are on lock down but they mingle with all their pen mates that can be sold to you right now not knowing if those lock down deer from the positive herd are positive or not. Sad Really!

LOL...Yup sorry buddy but even in your own state right now stands deer that were bought out of a CWD positive herd, those deer alone are on lock down but they mingle with all their pen mates that can be sold to you right now not knowing if those lock down deer from the positive herd are positive or not. Sad Really!
I've been trying to avoid the doom and gloom mindset but this is serious and Bell you make a very fine point we've got to get this under control now or its gonna be very very bad!

Officials came this week to a friends farm in Indiana with a quarantine order but no paper trail to show the trace back history or reason why.
Are we not at least entitled to an explanation in writing showing why a quarantine protocol is forcing us to either kill an animal we may have paid thousands of dollars for or else? Why are my friends being told to sign these orders by our leadership without any paper trail? A live test would fix all this mess.
We need to put up a fight and get these CWD rules changed before it is too late for.......

Why do people not want to talk about this and just bury their heads in the sand.. People we are on a sinking ship. Someone needs to throw out some life preservers if this industry is to survive. What is Nadefa for???? A top 30 sale???? Someone needs to start earning their BIG salary instead of telling people to just sign the papers and KILL their animals. A suit needs to be filed, And include the three failing parties of INsboah, pa dept of ag and Nadefa. HOW CAN WE STAND FOR THIS AS AN INDUSTRY!!!!

Obviously Im not as familiar with your political system a you folk, but wouldn't some of the "irregularities" be of interest to your Congressmen?

If the Congressmen aren't interested at first, they will be when the media eventually wakes up & smells a rat. YES, it is called a trace-back. They can go back 5 years and quarantine your farm. If your animal was moved in the 5 year time frame, forward or backward, you will be entangled in the "WEB". This was something some of us tried to address in Washington, but the leadership thought this was ok , and not a problem. We warned our leadership of what could happen, but we were told, this is what the membership wanted.

We were told that we could fix these rules after they were put in place. I was in Kansas City, at USAHA, and saw Dr. Anderson try to implement relief for testing requirements. He was shot down by John Fischer and Pat Kline in our captive cervid committee. Wildlife had more input in our committee, than our industry did. Any changes that "may" take place will take years, if even possible to do. I signed in right behind Patty Kline, and she noted in the comment section that she would like to serve on "our" captive cervid committee. This would d be a disaster.
Patty even made the comment, "that if you don't like the program, it was voluntary, and we could op-out." Several of us called her out on that statement, and she reneged, saying, "ok, you need to be in the program, for your animals to cross state lines." That may be true in some states, but our state requires us to be in the program, and we must have a least a 3 years status, to even move animals within our own state.
I think we now have a program in place, that we are stuck with. I think Sharkey is right. The only way to straighten this mess out is by politicians. We need to show the double-standards and improprieties of the rules put on us, that we now have to live by.

If they cant find it in the soil, is all this crap MADE UP about it living in the soil for eons????.........to me if they cant find prions in the soil it makes their theory all the much shakier. I my mind it makes a virus much more likely causing the prion to misfold.
