Dennis quotes some things supposedly out of BO's books, but neglects of course, to give us page numbers. Well, Snopes.com addresses, lo and behold these same purported 'truths,' as Dennis refers to them, and they actually site exact page numbers, and correct the misinformation being spewed at us.

I said I was not sure it was true or not.....So take a deep breath and CHILL....but I do not like Obama and if it is obvious, and it should be....I DO NOT CARE!! He is out to destroy the America that we all Know and Love!! I find it hard for anyone with any kind of sense to even think this man knows what he is doing.......Obama is a JOKE!! Gotta admit - I laughed pretty hard at Virgil's ''Get a room'' comment myself!



Also gotta admit that Extra Gold is an ''extra beauty'', as you stated Lana, and he is one of my all time favs as well.



I would love to see that deer's antlers flatout explode this year. This is the year for that to happen, let's hope and pray it does.

My special deer get to hang around a bit longer.

As for treats or special feed,that would mostly go to lactating does/hinds & their fawns/ calves.

At about 14 months the special boys are put in to the various bachelor herds (first cull).

Every year the special boys are kept & if they make it to 5 or 6 yo they might spend a year or two with the girls.

I breed to "origin" or "type",my eye is pretty sharp & I cull ruthlessly even if the pedegree looks good on paper. I love deer but can't afford much emotion.

Girls are culled on conformation,fertility & production.If one is spoilt more than another,its no longer an even playing field.How do I select then.



I do have one red deer hind which is hand reared (a rescue),She's trouble,& cant thrive with her own type.She is not even usefull in calming down or leading her own type when they are being worked.She needs special treatment now because of this,its sad really.She would have been much better if she could have been raised by her mother.I can't even keep her in the house paddock as you'd expect with a "pet",because she thinks she's human,& wants to come inside,into cars,go through gates with you, etc.She is a good learning tool though for visiters,& is my only deer with a name,"Chelsea".



Treats may be used to help manage,& as soon as they realise a white bucket means grain,my life is easier for some management tasks.

I think I'm treating all my species as special, by keeping & managing them as close to their individual natural needs as possible.This does not only include food, but maximising space & range,a mix of habitat,low population densities,age structures/dominance & interfering as little as possible in their daily needs, appart from ensuring all their needs are met.How many farmed deer issues arrise from environmental stress,even when nutrition is met?

With so many different deer & antelope,plus batchelor & breeding mobs, healthy independent animals which can forage for themselves, are a must.
