Rompam without reversal?????? sound nuts?

Thanks Lanasvet

Thats on the list.

As you know I regard Tito's deer highly.I have enough straws collected from his reserves in the 80's to last several lifetimes.

How do you like the Jelen? They are different to the German & English stags aren't they?

Almost like a red/elk cross (but much better).

Can you ask how the true/pure Yugo stags (Jelen) are going? Any hybridisation with the western forms?

Thanks Lanasvet I really enjoyed that footage.

Please keep in mind,it's people who hunt these animals, who do the heavy lifting in the conservation of this species & its habitat.

It's good to see the respect for the hunt & it's traditions.Lets hope it can continue for many more generations.

Cheers Sharkey

It is my understanding that when using straight Rompam the deer may still feel pain. Your openion on using it straight just to move one from pen to pen, maybe load on trailer or put cedar in and pulling them. Something quick. If ok how much would you use and how much reversal. Heard alot of talk about Bam for this purpose but Rompam would be sheaper if safe.

I do it all the time with no problems. As far as them feeling pain I don't know but as long as they are sleeping I would think not. Every deer is different in my opinion but I would start with 2cc and if not enough give more then you will know next time to use telazol on that deer. I have some deer that go out cold with a 1/4 cc of rompum but they are all different. I Also only use 1cc of reversal at all times and 1 1/2cc if given extra dose of rompum. Personaly I feel alot of deer die from being over dosed on reverser.

Dixie,

Take a look: http://www.animalhealth.bayerhealthcare.com/5095.0.html

Rompun is a muscle relaxant, it does not put the animal to sleep- it immobilizes the animal. Might be a good idea to take a "Safe Capture" course on how to immobilize, move and anesthetize deer. It's not as simple as it may seem.

Also search and read this thread from start to finish, there is much discussion on this topic on these boards.

Good luck!

According to the link you just posted it puts them to sleep and is a anaesthesia as well as a muscle relaxant. So there for they should feel no pain as long as they are out. It also said the best results come from experiance.

It certainly did say that experience plays a huge role. No denying that that's exactly what YOU have, but so many of US lack. I don't think it knocks them out into a deep sleep though. Perhaps I am wrong.

Thanks for the info guys. Can't get enough education on this topic is guess. Watched it used last year to load some and seam to work good on most of them. Just thought it would be good for this type of thing instead of buying another product to deal with.

Buy the other med too, you won't regret it. Follow careful capture guidelines. Talk to a really good DVM and get her input!
