What can we do to help end market

"Well said Roger, What if we could target the kids in school like ag classes or at our high school they have a hunting and fishing club, could you have a drawing ,a compition, raffle for a hunt on a preseve and paid for thru or associations, local deerfarmers ? "

We have something here called "Project Graduation" where they search out donations of all kinds of items from bedding to computers to hunts for a give away to the seniors. It's also nice to throw in the taxidermy cost because most of them can't afford it either.

Wayne, roger both good ideas. What about a organization that we educate youngsters, promote the idea of high fence hunting to others. I am ready

I know it has been stated by some disgruntle people in other discussions about starting new orgs. We truly don't need new orgs. Everything can be done under one umbrella such as NADEFA. Each new org means added overhead costs. Programs like are being discussed here can be done with NADEFA support. The problem with getting new programs going is who will do the work. Everyone has great ideas, but few want to do the work that goes with it. Our current NADEFA and state org board of directors are busy people with farms and jobs of their own. Too often new ideas are thrown out and not followed up with because the board just can't be expected to do the work. What is needed is more volunteers to jump in and start working with NADEFA support on these great ideas.

If anyone would like to followup with these ideas or any others contact NADEFA and present the ideas and offer to do the leg work. I bet Shawn would be glad to guide anyone who is willing to get in there and do some volunteer work.

We do need more volunteers because the sad but true truth is EVERYBODY LOVES TO GO TO A PARTY BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP SET IT UP! Those of you have headed projects from school parties to clubs and orgs. Know to often this is true!

Roger, i do no see any reason not to operate under nadefa as long as we can specialize our efforts in the direction we are talking about... Nadefa has alot of other stuff that is going on that is as or more important than this... We need a committee, budget and a game plan that is devoted especially for this project.. Ideas for raising the money that it is going to take to forward this project..

You guys have been around alot longer than i have been. I am only 27 but have been studying this business since i went to the first top thirty in eldon missouri. I have been hooked ever since. So i am just trying to think back and remember what made me so facinated about raising whitetails.. getting information to kids is a great idea. Most people don't even know that people farm whitetails. So education is probally the first thing we need to work on.

There are a few advantages that i can see not operating under nadefa. If we are going to get these kids into hunting we need to try to do a good job at it. We need to look for sponsors at a product level. Things such as camo, call, guns, scopes, scents. We can provide these hunters with the stuff that will allow them to go straight into the field. At the same time we will have the support of the sponsor companies at an ethical level as well as an economical level. If we work directly under nadefa i think it will be hard to call a company and explain this program is to help the kids not the deer farmers. Maybe some of you have some ideas about this ? Maybe i am wrong and if i am i bet roger is fixing to tell me .. lol :) Just messing with ya roger you have had some good ideas.. I think i can help with the product sponsors if we form an outside organization or just an association under nadefa... ok boys let me know what ya think

Why not have each state association try something becasue as we all know, each state has differant demographics and issues and could specialize in these issues whatever they may be or not be. I believe NaDeFa could be involved in some way becasue of who they are, what they do and honestly have been able to accomplish which took many people volunteering their time. I would be more then happy to help in any way I can to get the word out. In fact I have wanted to start something in PA for now with disabled military personal. I have an inside person in the military who has spoken to some general that would be all for this, I have a taxidermist lined up already, I may have someone from Mossy Oak to video the hunt for them, now the hard part, paying for the deer. This is something I have been wanting to do for some time as there is many things for children out there but not as many for of brave soldiers who gave. I would love to spear head this in PA and even more states but again, the deer is the issue. Keep in mind I would not be telling the soldier they can shot any deer in the preserve but maybe a nice management buck. Just some idea I had and wanted to share.

Henry, we are partners with Bill Vyvyan here in WI with Buck Hollow Ranch. That is our hunting ranch. Bill is just as thankful to our vets as I am and has been really working hard to provide them with great experiences through a deal called Hunts for Hero's.

Each year through the Veterans Administration, Bill is put in contact with someone and then a hunt is provided to them for free at our ranch. This past October an elk was harvested. That was the first time for an elk it usually is whitetails. The elk in this case was donated by Rick Jensen.

Each time a hunter is given one of these hunts the taxidermy work and the meat processing is taken care of for them.

This has been going here for a number of years now and it is very rewarding for everyone involved.

BF has a good point about each state. As long as you can get all the states to convey the same message that is a great idea.

Roger, I would like to hear more about that and maybe some photos, you know it all starts small and grows from there. If we can get more smiles on peoples faces the more they will talk to their friends and their friends friends and so on. Who better to have behind you then the US Military. Roger, I will see you at NaDeFa and would like to discuss this then if that is alright.

I know one thing I'm wanting to do is have a sponsored Youth Weekend. It would be very similar to the Wilderness's Jamboree. The only difference is it will be Youth only hunters. Have it as basically a big fund raising event to get rid of my does and lower quality bucks. All the procedes would be donated to some charity organization or be used to help further the national campaign to promote the high fenced industry. I'm also wanting to offer a Weekend for the Make-a-wish foundation. Where I'll have 4-6 terminally ill children come in and provide them with excellent hunts have them video'd the whole deal. Kind of like the hunts I've seen posted by USSA. It would be a two fold benefit one it would really help the Public Relations and two its something that is very important to me even if there were no other benefits.

Have you ever heard of The Way Outfitters. It were started by Roger Davenport (a deer breeder) and some other Christian men. They arrange hunts for the handy-caped, terminally ill and wounded veterans. Just last weekend they brought two special hunters to our ranch to harvest animals. They also held their national meeting at our other lodge. They are also working on a TV show. I personally feel one strong ***. like The Way Outfitters can do more than two dozen small ones in getting us some advertising. I mean no disrespect to the smaller ones.

If you ever need any info on how we run our hunts please let me know. I would be glad to help you.

Wish I was 40 years younger I would come to help you shoot some does on your youth hunt.
