after being on this site i have learned alot about the guys on here. We have alot of watchers, alot of great ideas, even more oppinions, but the one thing we are short on is action. Everyone on here means well though and i really injoy the conversations that take place on here, and you all letting me participate.

Just a thought here: I like pauls idea. along with what henry is saying. Maybe us guy here in Pa get togther here yourself, henry, me and who ever else what to come along. We come up with something to do here in Pa. and take to PADFA to get something going for sportsmans show.

Im throwing away the NADEFA deal here. Just thinkign maybe if we come up with something here on a state level it may be a blueprint or even easier for that matter to get something rolling on a national level. Just thinking of taking a little bit of the cow vs the hole rump. It may be faster to organize something localy then something nationaly.

We need to get a commity togeather to draft up such a plan to present to an organization such as NADEFA and PADFA. Just a couple of thoughts!

feel free to contact me anyone interested. " keep moving forward"

Sounds like a good plan Mathew.....someone needs to speak to Dave griffith and see what his thoughts are on the idea....is the Pres of Pa organization and we definitly need his support.

we got alot of ideas here to build off of. But for some reason we are afraid to move and take action.

Im going to take this thing, im tired of sitting still and letting ideas stop at words. Im going to take what was started by Dennis, refined buy Paul along with some ideas from wisdom and others on here. I will PM some of you who said that you would be willing to help. If your minds have changed thats ok im still going to produce something and present it to PADFA to possibly get something going with this intime for Pa Sportsman Show.

Sorry if i have stepped on anyones toes in doing so ( self appointing myself i guess ) But im just tired of talk and am ready for some action. We must act on this or we really have nothing to complain about. IF it does'nt work well we gave er a hell of a try. "we miss 100% of the shots we never take"

If i dont PM you and would like to help send me a PM or email me[email protected]

Heres to moving forward

Matthew, I am ready to help in anyway I can, you know that. One thing to keep in mind is how can we serve both the breeder and the preserve owner, meaning how can we increase buying from the breeders within our own state. I think we might want to try this in PA first and work out some kinks that I am sure will arise. The hunters will see the preserve but not the breeders who donate so how will they benifit (hopefully more deer purchased) but as you know, the price of deer has not been very good due to the amout of deer available. Maybe there is a way to split the cost of some bucks with the preserves 50/50 or whatever is agreeable. If a preserve sells a buck for $8,000, then the breeder gets $4,000, just a thought (this is for future sales, not the giveaway). I believe the preserve that offers their place and services for free should be reconginzed as well as the breeder who donates the animal but how will that help the breeder to the hunter?

Henry I think the main idea is to attract more people into our world. The more hunters we attract the more we sell to the preserves. If the supply is higher than the demand you only have two options. One lower the supply or two increase the the demand. Besides I think there are plenty of does that breeders can't get rid of.

Paul, you are correct in that area and many bucks as well but my concern is the hunters will only know the name of the preserve and not the breeder, not that they need to know the breeder but given the prices of bucks this past 18 months, I think the breeder should get some recognition and maybe even have more deer purchased. I understand the overall goal is to increase consumption by getting more hunters out to the preserve and I am all for that, believe me but I wonder if that alone will be enough to get prices back where they were or at least better. Breeders have been forced to sell so much lower then before because other breeders got scared and sold much cheaper, now there are too many lowering their deer prices just to move deer. I just want us all to benifit and grow this business and I understand it needs to start at the preserves. Like I said, I will do whatever I can to help because I love this business. I am willing to go to the meeting with Matthew when we get it all together. Matthew, call me and lets discuss or anyone can call me, my number is on here

Henry and paul i sent a pm to you guys. but you didnt get it the first time because i forgot the spaces,LOL but you should have it now. Henry if tomorrow is ok i will give you a call.

If we have enough donations and preserves who will support this venture for a giveaway (several) there is a lot of opportunity to draw families, individules and even wives into this arena we call hunting. I have a lot of ideas in this area but so far I believe Andy Foor is the only preserve to step forward. We need someone who knows the preserve owners to contact them.

Henry,

I know you feel the deer breeders need more recognition but that would be within the industry itself....not the end market (the Hunters). Like Wisdom said, we (the deer breeders) need to stay in the back field......our reword will be higher prices due to a higher demand for our deer. We need to focus on getting th hunting population to except the Hunting ranches and get them on board with it being another method of hunting which it is.

Are we going to get setup where someone can recieve financial donations to go toward advertiseing and other needs? I do not have a preserve or many deer to donate at the time, but i could donate some money toward the cause at the time, and i am sure other could.

Think for a minute which sounds better “hunting preserve” or hunting ranch”. When you think of each of them indivually what do you think of.

Hunting preserve one might think of canned hunts, high fence, barn yard hunt. Now hunting ranch on the other hand reminds one of the western wide open spaces. Most hunting ranch’s prefer to be called hunting ranch’s and not preserves.

I also know you book the hunts the ranches will step up to the plate. We must remember only a small percentage of deer farmers belong to this forum. Heck most Amish and Mennonites do not have computers.

Wisdom im with ya, Ranch sounds good. But if we hide the fact that we are behind high fence how are we promoting it? This concept is to educate the public on the possibilities and the positives of hunting behind high fence. If we do not do such we are no better than the shows on tv that hunt them and make it look like they got it on the back 40. Ranch it is i like it. But our end goal is to get people to hunt these astablishments.;)

I am ready.....Mathew I got your email.....look forward to working with you on this....wisdom.......your heart is definitly in the right place.......you are big enough that you could probabbly just worry about yourself now and continue to succeed but you do want to see others succeed as well and that says a lot of your character.........thanks!!

Matthew, I have sent you a few emails this morning, sorry for sending more then 1 but everytime I sent one I thought of something more. We should get together soon.

For this to work we need buck donations and doe. It would be nice to give away some buck hunts and then ask the hunter if he has a wife or son/daughter that hunts as well and he could in turn bring them along to harvest a deer with their dad, how cool is that. I was so proud when my daughter took her first doe at a hunting ranch as was she and in fact she still talks about it yet today. The happier we can make the hunters the more they will want to return again and again and again.

Canned Hunt? or Fair Chase? At A.S.I.A. we agree that if the outcome of the hunt is pre-determined it's not hunting. If your interested, try searching for Discussion paper on enclosed private game reserves.Adding " Dongadale" may help. These issues are shared globaly. Down here we are trying to raise the acceptability of enclosures by highlighting the benefits to bio-diversity as well as rural & regional development they provide. There is little doubt that a well managed game reserve is the highest value lowest impact legal land use.

Dr. Kroll always likes to highlight the fact that we are preserving the land - not developing it. He has some satellite images of Texas at night that show the lights - the difference in even 10 years is noticeable. Instead of chopping up large parcels, we are conserving them, or even adding to them. Fences are more about protecting our herd and managing it, keeping out inferior stock.

Seems like predicting the outcome of a hunt is difficult - who knows how good a shot the hunter is or if he will see a deer he wants??? We always say you will have opportunities, but the final decision is up to the hunter and their skill.

My Advice quit bottle feeding Bucks and showing them Tame! Then we need to change the image of high fence hunting. By promoting Hunting behind a fence. i defend this industry as preserving Monster Genetics just like preserving extinct animals.

"Monster" not areal good choice of words.May as well admit O.v frankienstienus.Sharkey
