Today was the big day for us here at Independence Ranch and also for a friend of ours at Breezy Hill Whitetails.

We A/I'ed a total of 20 does at our place, (some were another farmers does and some were ours) and our friend did a total of 17 does.

All went well and it seems all the girls are doing fine.

Sure glad it is over:D Also very thankful for help we got from local friends and also from a great young couple looking at getting into deer. They came over to watch and learn and ended up being a BIG part of the events of the day at both farms.

We AI 'd 10 @ DEER CREEK WHITETAILS on the 11th & drew semen on our first yearling. All went well. Then helped a buddy do 28 doe's . We ended up using Free Agent, Maxbo Xl,

Soaring Eagle, Toxic Shock,& Silverking.

I did my first ai job on 2 of our does tonight.....Man it looks alot easier on paper...I think i got it where it needed to be..We will see..We did have a straw blow up on us so that was not good..I sure wish i could have made it to apple creek for the ai class but i guess i will learn as i go...I sure hope slingshot puts them on the ground for me like he has for some other farms....If i got him where he needed to be...Lets pray!!!!!!!

I am AI'ing for the third year with pure south texas genetics to Marty Berry's Berrylicious (won 1st place at TDA for largest typical and nontypical at age 4 this year, 252 gross typical frame and 301 gross non-typical) and levarage (largest pure Tx buck ever at 350+ at 2. All my deer are from Berry Genetics and sticking with what has worked for him.

We AI'd 8 does on Nov 3rd, used Shadow, Dream Ranger, and 20/28......... have 10 being lived covered.....

Anyone ever AI their does all by themselves? You think it looks easier on paper! Try locking them in the chute, putting up the kick plate, opening the back door, holding the tail, inserting the speculum, and managing the semen and breeding...that was me last Saturday. Local state quarterfinals for high school football and a guy having a friend in the hospital left me with...just about Plan D or E, I guess! I felt terrible about how it all went, but we'll see how things turned out in May/June. I know I used to get great results after a bad gut feeling on breeding sows and gilts, and other times I had a great feeling with mediocre results. Maybe the animals have a bigger role in saying whether they stick or not!

Oh my God Phillip, I had no idea when you called you were doing the does all on your own! I sure wouldn't have tried all that. I sure hope things work out for you. Good luck friend.

Thanks, Roger. Bad move trying to do it during the opening day of firearms season; next year I'm shooting for a Wednesday night after dark when I'm sure to get some guys to help.

Help a friend of my on nov. 6th do 10 doe we are splitting fawns out of two doe bred to say it aint so shadow, and 2 doe bred to rolex. the rest are all staying at his place and they were bred to golden bucky boy. It all went very smooth. It was my first time helping with AI on deer and I would have to say not much different than doing cows.

Lots to King Kong and Fear Factor. Also, Maxbo Express, Maxbo XLT, Maxbo 747, Rolls Royce, Big Man, Gold Rush, X-Factor, Cardiac Kid, Rold Gold, Triton, Grand Canyon, Time Bomb, Promise Land, Energizer,Super Impact ect.

LAI'd, AI'd and live bred to the above bucks the ones highlighted in bold are some we live bred to as well as AI.

Good luck all! :)

My buddies AI time was 4:00am . We did not finish all 28 doe's complete until 10:00ish . It was above 70* degrees. We had half a dozen that weren't coming back around in a timely manor. Got readings of 104.9 - 108.9* temps. NOT GOOD. I was told semen is killed off after 105*-106*. These are all preserve doe's, but Its still loss of money. I feel sorry for my buddies efforts. Maybe he learned a few deer farming lessons from this!

Just finished AI'ng tonight we used Dropzilla, Rob Roy, Pinnacle, and Weatherby. We had a straw of another buck but it turned out to be bad. Hoping the seller will stand up behind it. Though there were no guarantees of mobility. We'll see what he has to say. Does all did great. Now just wait for June, and pray for lots of fawns.
