Fawns on the ground

Not to be stupid - but what are the signs for knowing when the does are getting closer. This is our first time (less then 30 days) of being into deer farming. Our does that are bred are not tame so we can not get close to them. I have noticed they are getting bigger.

I agree with what others have said so far, except that I've had 2-3 girls over the last 2 years have big bags that lasted for nearly a month before fawning. One of my does has had a large bag for over 3 weeks now, and she's still not due for 2 more weeks.

When my does start pacing the fence with their tails straight out it's normally just a matter of hours before the fawns hit the ground. Other than that it's just a matter of frequently checking the pens everyday. Good luck.

The easiest way to tell is if they have fallen away. What this means is if you can see little indentions on both sides of the back between the tail and the hips then time is getting real close. The bones are softened and are ready for delivery. Usually within a couple of days.

Well guys and girls Montana has it's first of the year whitetail fawn born today. It is a son of G B High Point out of a Cyclone/Redoy Ruger daughter. It is 188 days from AI. Shouldn't have any problems at it is 70 degrees with 38 degree nights. It will stay with it's dam.:)

Well I am sitting in my living room on baby watch as I type this. Earlier Laurie and I went out and tagged the first set of fawns from the live breeding. (Max Thrust on an Avalanche doe)

1 buck and 1 doe. The games have begun here. Our A/I babies will be popping soon along with the rest of our live bred does.

Roger, Kind of like Christmas isn't it? Waiting around in antipication like a bunch of kids. We deer breeders have the most fun.

Anybody have any ideas on this problem? I seem to have too many singles when I AI. Conception rate is good about 80% but many singles born. The doe that had the GB High Point today was a single. I AI'd her as a yearling and she had one AI fawn. At two and a half I let her breed natural and she had triplets. Now at three and a half with AI she had a single again. Any Ideas?

Another present was just opened out in the pen. One of our Maxbo does (a womb sister to Max Thrust) just pushed out 1 fawn and the other is halfway out.

Did she have 3 maybe? Last year she pushed out 3 Rolex fawns as a first time mother.

Who thinks she had 3 again this year?

Roger, Did she have 3?

We have been dropping fawns for a few days now, we Ai'd our first bunch on the 7th of Nov. and the first one went on day 190 and gave us 4 Grizzly fawns, all good and healthy. Only 6 to go out of the first batch then I can take a little break, Maybe get out and fill my Turkey Tag.

Good luck with the fawns.

Yes Dan she did have 3 very nice fawns. Two girls and one boy.

I know I have said it before but I will say it again. Let me see some of those Grizzly sons when they get grown out.

Had our first fawn (6.5 lbs Martygraw buck fawn) on the 18th. We had 6 more yesterday the 21st. The rest should be in the next couple of days. We had a good year with AI this year.

Had triplet buck fawns out of Canyon (Laurie Prasnicki) on Wednesday. My Trixie had a buck and doe (Pixie) fawn last night out of Canyon also. It was so cool.....we watched everything!!

We finally had some fawns today, running a little late. Triplet doe fawns from Rampage's sister AI'd to Marty Gras. Would have liked a buck or two, but they are healthy and it's still early....maybe the bucks will come.

Had 6 fawns yesterday. All live breds. One doe had a buck and doe fawn out of our yearling. Had 2 doe fawns out a real nice 10 point clean typical. And had 2 does fawns out of a doe bought from Fier's in Porter, MN out of MN Geronimo. Have 2-3 does walking the fence pretty hard today. One is AIed to Marty Graw and one AIed to Prentice.
